Draft Thoughts

I'm not qualified to analyze the Diamondbacks draft over the past few days, simply because I don't follow amateur baseball that closely at all.  However, there are a few places that can do a better job grading the draft than I can, so I have linked them below.

How does this relate to South Bend?  Well obviously, with 50 new players drafted into the organization (not all will sign), we are talking about many future Silver Hawks.  Some may appear this season, while others will be here over the next couple of years.

Anyhow, here's a few links for you if you want to read about the draft:

-The list of players the Diamondbacks drafted with some scouting reports can be found here.

-Here's a column by Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com that says the Diamondbacks had the best draft.

-Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic has been blogging non-stop about the draft.  Read his work here.

-Another MLB column about the Diamondbacks sticking to their draft strategy.

-Finally, you can't call it draft coverage unless you check in with Baseball America.  Multiple links on their site will evaluate the draft and all the picks.  Some areas are pay, but you can get a lot of good info for free.

D'Backs Make 1st Round Selection

Sorry for the lack of posts today, but an off day is an off day afterall.

Anyhow, the Diamondbacks just made their first round selection in the draft. They took RHP Barret Loux from Texas A&M. Looks like he is 6'5", 220 pounds.

Here's a link to his player bio page at Texas A&M's website.

Here's some other profile piece on him. It seems that some people had him going late first round or not in the first round at all. Interesting.

Finally, here's the mlb.com video on Loux.

One More Article on the Draft

You can find it here. It's a final summation of the Diamondbacks draft.

Day Two Draft Results

Remember the high school kid from Florida that threw four straight no-hitters earlier this year? Yep, the Diamondbacks drafted him, amongst many others on day two of the draft. Click the link above for a recap of the day two draft picks.

An article about day one for the D'backs system is here.

A story from the South Bend Tribune about 17th overall pick A.J. Pollock.

Of course, the best draft coverage will come from http://www.mlb.com/ as it's happening (through today and tomorrow).

I'll post more links as I see them relating to some of the top picks and scouting reports.
