LAST GAME: Keyvius Sampson (WP, 1-0) threw 6.0 perfect innings and the Fort Wayne TinCaps held off a late Silver Hawks rally to win the season opener 2-1. Sampson struck out 10 batters in his six perfect innings before turning a 2-0 lead over to the bullpen. South Bend rallied for a run in the ninth on a Mike Freeman RBI single, but stranded the tying run at third when Adam Dominick (SV, 1) struck out the final two hitters. Zach Walters had two hits to lead the South Bend offense. Tommy Medica drove in and scored a run as part of a two hit night for the TinCaps.

TEAM NOTES:

• South Bend has not won an Opening Day game since 2006. The Silver Hawks started 0-9 last season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES:

• Zach Walters had the only multi-hit game for South Bend last night, going 2-for-4 with two singles.

• Mike Freeman (single) and Raul Navarro (double) added the other two hits for the Silver Hawks.
