Update on 2011 Silver Hawks on Different Teams Now

Originally I was just going to post about Zach Walters and update you on what he did, but I figured I should turn this into an update on all the players who have played with South Bend that are now on different teams.

Keon Broxton  - .233, 4 HR, 27 RBIs, 20 SB, but 96 K's with high-A Visalia.

Raul Navarro - .197, 0 HR, 8 RBIs in 33 games with short-season A Yakima.

Zach Walters - Went 1-for-3 in his debut with the high-A Potomac Nationals yesterday.

Brian Budrow - 4-2, 5.35 ERA in 20 relief appearances for high-A Visalia.

Enrique Burgos - 3-3, 7.07 ERA in 8 starts for rookie Missoula.  38 K's in 35.2 IP.

David Holmberg - 2-2, 5.01 ERA in 6 starts for high-A Visalia.  28 K's in 32.1 IP.

Greg Robinson - 0-4, 6.75 ERA in 13 relief appearances for short-season A Yakima.

Dan Taylor - 0-0, 4.73 ERA in 6 appearances (1 start) for high-A Visalia.  12 K's in 13.1 IP.

Today's Roster Move - May 9th

RHP Brian Budrow promoted to high-A Visalia.
RHP Keith Cantwell joins club from extended spring training.

My take:  Good for Budrow.  He never should have been in South Bend to begin with this year, and it's a well deserved, if not belated, promotion to where he should have been all along.  He takes the spot of Chase Anderson, who went on the DL today with the Rawhide.

Losing a strong member of the bullpen usually hurts, but judging by the numbers Cantwell has put up the last two season in Missoula and Yakima (combined 9-3, 3.46 ERA with 92 K's in 80.2 innings), hopefully there won't be much of a drop off.

I Hate the Internet and Tonight's Lineup

Everywhere I go, I have internet issues.  Whether it's trying to send email, trying to receive email, trying to connect to a server, or just trying to log on to espn.com, it seems like nothing is easy anymore.  Today's issues has been trying to send emails through Microsoft Outlook.  Apparently, the ISP that I am using at the ballpark will not let me send through my outgoing server on Outlook, so now I must log into my webmail server which is ten times more difficult that using Outlook.  *Sigh*  The life of a Media Relations Director.

I feel like I am not blogging near as much as I did last year, because I'm spending half my life troubleshooting computer problems.

Anyhow, lineup is below for tonight's game.

Keon Broxton - CF
Raul Navarro - SS
Mike Freeman - 2B
Yazy Arbelo - 1B
Raywilly Gomez - C
Matt Helm - 3B
Chris Jarrett - RF
Ramon Castillo - DH
Roberto Rodriguez - LF

David Holmberg - P

I'm hoping to grab Brian Budrow for the pregame interview, so I need to head down to the field now.

What's With Bullpen Pitchers?

Why are all bullpen pitchers just strange characters?

For some unknown reason, Brian Budrow, Dan Taylor, and Eury De La Rosa are participating in baserunning drills...typically reserved for offensive players only.

Listen, I'm all for conditioning, but it's just funny to see these guys running the bases and praciting tagging up at third.

Gotta love relievers.

Roster News

I've unofficially heard that Brian Budrow will be back in the Silver Hawks bullpen, and that J.R. Bradley tweeted that he is coming to South Bend.  I also saw that Derek Eitel was slated to come to South Bend, but will now be headed to Visalia.  All this information was gathered via social media sites or through personal emails.

So there's two names.  23 to go.

Our hope is that the roster is announced tomorrow.  If not, I'd say Saturday or Sunday at the absolute latest.  When I know something, I'll get a press release sent out, put it on our website, and link you to it from this blog.

Congratulations Brian Budrow

I'm a few days late in posting this, but I wanted to pass along a congratulations to Brian Budrow, who got married recently.

Brian was excellent in relief for the Silver Hawks in 2010, going 6-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 40 games. He earned a very late season call-up to Visalia, where he appeared in two games. I'd imagine he'll start 2011 in Visalia, with hopes of moving to Mobile by the All-Star Game.

Anyhow, congratulations Brian!

Also, if you news (baseball-related or not) on a former player that I may have missed, please feel free to share the information. I can be reached at oserey@silverhawks.com. Thanks!

Good afternoon. We start our day of posting with a roster move for South Bend.

Reliever Brian Budrow has been promoted to high-A Visalia in an effort to help the Rawhide in the playoffs. A well-deserved promotion for one of the best relievers this season.

No new players will be added at this point in the season.

The full press release can be read on www.silverhawks.com in the "Headlines" section.

Not Quite 1,000 and a Few Other Notes

So upon further review, the last post wasn't number 1,000. It was actually 996 due to a quirk where sometimes blogger saves a "draft" of a post before you publish it, thus showing the same post twice. Either way, we're approaching the milestone and I stand by everything I said in the previous post.

A few other notes from the Silver Hawks today:

-RHP Brad Wilson will start and make his South Bend 2010 debut. He pitched in relief for the Silver Hawks in 2009 (only two appearances -- 4.1 scoreless innings).

-Reliever Brian Budrow has now thrown 9.2 consecutive scoreless innings since allowing a run on June 12th at Cedar Rapids.

-Keon Broxton is tied for the Minor League Baseball lead with 11 triples. He's one shy of tying the South Bend franchise record (12 by Victor Hall in 2001).

Featured Silver Hawk - Archive

Since the team has been on the road all week and I haven't had a chance to interview a player, there will not be a new "Featured Silver Hawk" today. However, the previous four stories are now all available to view on the "Featured Silver Hawk" page on the Silver Hawks website.

The archive page is located under the "Roster" tab and will be updated every week. As of now, it has links to the stories on David Nick, Keon Broxton, Charles Brewer, and Brian Budrow. Check back next week for an article on a new player.

This week's Featured Silver Hawk is relief pitcher Brian Budrow. The Arizona native talks about his college career, which started as part of two national championship teams at Oregon State and ended in the NCAA Tournament with Utah, as well as his love for the outdoors. Bobby Borchering - 3B
Matt Davidson - DH
David Nick - 2B

Ender Inciarte - RF

Charles Brewer - SP

The pregame interview guest tonight is Brian Budrow.

Pregame show begins at 6:15 PM Eastern Time.
First pitch (hopefully) will be at 6:35 PM.
