Pitchers and Catchers Report
Ah yes...the four greatest words in the English language: Pitchers and Catchers Report.
This happened for the Diamondbacks on Sunday, leading us to a barrage of links today. Away we go...

Former Silver Hawks Star Traded
Well, we knew the Diamondbacks would be active at the Winter Meetings, and it took all of half a day for them to make a splash.
Today, former Silver Hawks infielder Mark Reynolds was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for a couple of prospects. Before you ask, the answer is no, neither of the prospects will appear in South Bend because they both already have MLB experience.
Arizona also signed Melvin Mora to a contract. Mora is 38 years old, but it's a low-risk signing for GM Kevin Towers to fill the vacated third base hole left by Mark Reynolds.
I'm not qualified to analyze deals that the Diamondbacks make, but Steve Gilbert of mlb.com and Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic certainly have more experience in that area. Click the links to view their blogs.

Pollock with the Big Club
A.J. Pollock got an at-bat with the big league club a few days ago in Spring Training.

Diamondbacks Lose Spring Opener
Not that it really matters, but Arizona lost their spring training opener yesterday to the Colorado Rockies by a final score of 11-1 (ouch!).

D'Backs Want Miguel Montero Locked Up Long Term
More from Steve Gilbert about the Diamondbacks wanting to sign former Silver Hawks catcher Miguel Montero to a long term deal.
Montero, 26, was a member of the 2004 South Bend Silver Hawks. While in South Bend, he hit .263 with 11 homers and 59 RBIs. He also led the team with 36 walks, helping him to post a .330 on-base percentage.

On Zavada's Intensity

However, when I see something on there that strikes me, I'll bring it over here for you to read as well.
The note that struck me today was about Clay Zavada:
"Clay Zavada threw some good curveballs during his batting practice session. His intensity during the session drew laughs from his teammates. Whether it's batting practice or not, Zavada treats every time on the mound like it's Game 7 of the World Series."
I was working with Dayton at the time Zavada was in South Bend, but I always thought he was very intense and intimidating on the mound. Looks like he still has it, even in February!

Offseason Blogging
As you can probably tell, my goal for this offseason is to have at least one post every weekday. I don't know if that's possible or not since things really slow down in the winter, but that's the stated goal anyhow.
