Minor League Transactions - Updated

Just received an email from the Diamondbacks announcing the following Minor League transactions:

Outright (trade) to Durham (TB) from Reno (ARI):  Matt Torra
Transferred from AAA Reno to AA Mobile:  Tom Layne
Transferred from AA Mobile to AAA Reno:  Wade Miley
Transferred from R Missoula to SA Yakima:  Westley Moss

The first three are former Silver Hawks.  I'm not sure who Torra was traded for with the Rays.  I'm trying to find out.  (UPDATE:  Found out Torra was traded for cash considerations.)
Bad news for Layne in that he's going backwards.  Good news for Miley, who pitched for South Bend in 2009.

This came in on Sunday, but I'm just now getting around to posting it.  Like last time, bolded names will be ones that appear that they are headed to South Bend, italicized names are former Silver Hawks.

A Few MiLB Transactions

Eli Rumler moved from double-A to high-A.

Manny Ferrer placed on the restricted list.

Derrick Walker was released.

All three are former Silver Hawks. I have no idea why Ferrer is on the restricted list. I'm sad to see Walker released, but he was only hitting .200 at high-A Visalia.

Transaction Involving Former Hawk

Former Silver Hawk Vince Bongiovanni has been traded to the Blue Jays organization and will report to high-A Dunedin. Former Hawk Reid Mahon will take his place on the double-A Mobile roster.

The only thing I can find says that Bongiovanni has been traded for future considerations. Bongiovanni was 2-0 with a 6.00 ERA in five games with Mobile.

Lots of posts today, including four posts of pictures. Enjoy them all. Back with the lineup shortly.

More Minor League Transactions

From the Diamondbacks:

Placed on the Voluntarily Retired List: Mike Mee ('08 Silver Hawk)

Released: Bill Musselman ('o8 Silver Hawk)
Eddie Romero ('07 Silver Hawk)

Same old story for most of these guys, age versus level, combined with past history. I guess Mike Mee retiring is a surprise, but you never know the motives behind it. Some guys have families, some might have other plans, some have injuries, and some guys just realize that the odds of them making it to the majors aren't very good, and it's better to get on with the rest of your life. Not knowing Mike, I would have no idea his reasons behind retiring. Even still, as with all these guys, we wish them the best.

Minor League Transactions

Here are some of the latest transactions in the Diamondbacks minor-league system according to Baseball America (http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?cat=7):

(Note: I bolded and added in the years that each player was in South Bend.)

Arizona Diamondbacks

Released: RHP Jason Durst, RHP Matt Green, RHP Jailen Peguero, RHP Kyle Wright ('06), LHP Forrest Cory ('06)

Optioned to Triple-A: RHP Cesar Valdez ('07), RHP Esmerling Vasquez, LHP Jon Coutlangus

Optioned to Double-A: RHP Jose Marte, RHP Kyler Newby ('06), LHP Clay Zavada ('08), SS Pedro Ciriaco ('06)

Optioned to high Class A: LHP Leyson Septimo ('06)

My comments: Obviously you feel bad for the guys at the top of the list that got released. Kyle Wright was 8-12 with a 4.03 ERA in four minor league seasons, all in A-ball or below. Forrest Cory surprises me a bit. He was coming off a tough season, but he's had success in the past including an 8-1 season at Visalia in '07.

I'm not surprised to see Clay Zavada go to double-A, as he was flat out dominant in South Bend last season. There was really no need to waste a year of his development in high-A, so the D-backs decided to challenge him in Mobile.

Finally, Silver Hawks fans will remember Leyson Septimo as a rightfielder with a cannon for an arm. The problem was, he never hit like they thought he would. So the D-Backs decided to make him a pitcher. He went 0-2 last season as a pitcher in high-A, and will start there to begin this season it appears.
