I'm about finished for the day at work, but I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who follows us through the offseason (on this blog, facebook, twitter, etc). I know it's hard to handle the winter months and snow, but we've made it through and now just one month away from the home opener against the Lansing Lugnuts.
We've made it!

Post Number 1,000
This post is my 1,000th since starting this blog in March of 2009. I don't really have anything special to say other than my fingers must be tired from all the typing I've done the past year and a half.
When I started this blog, I envisioned it as a way to give some additional information about the team that you wouldn't find on the main silverhawks website. I also wanted parents of the players to stop by and get a glance at some photos from the stadiums while we were on the road, giving them an idea as to where their sons were playing.
While I maybe haven't taken as many photos as I thought I would, I never imagined that I would receive over 200 page views per day on this blog. I continue to be amazed at the unwavering support of the fans.
The best compliment I've ever received came from the parent of a player on last year's team. He wrote me an email saying "While I don't always agree with what you say, you tell it like it is and are very fair in your broadcasts." I hope that you all feel the same way and know that I truly appreciate all the kind words, emails, and support from the fans.
Oh, one more thing...don't worry about this team yet. It's still a better start in the second half than it was in the first half, and just because they struggle against the Loons, I still have confidence in this team's ability to be a playoff team. There is more talent on this team than maybe any other team in the league. They are growing and I'm seeing a lot of improvement even though it doesn't always seem like it.
Unfortunately, the Silver Hawks are snake bit against the Loons and the frustration sets in from time to time with the players, coaches, and even the broadcaster, but I look forward to being finished with the Loons for a while after tonight's game and seeing what the Silver Hawks can do against everyone else in the league.

An Apology and a Thank You
First and foremost, I apologize for missing the game last night. Unfortunately, I have a history of kidney stones and a nasty one decided to creep up early yesterday morning. I spent over 24 hours in the hospital, mad at the world because I was missing a game.
Secondly, I owe a big thank you to Casey Richards for driving up from South Bend and filling in for me last night. Casey was expecting to have a nice relaxing weekend, and instead, he was forced into duty and filled in admirably. I also want to thank the South Bend Silver Hawks front office staff, manager Mark Haley, and trainer Brian Czachowski for being very supportive and allowing to me rest comfortably knowing that everything would be taken care of.
I fully anticipate broadcasting tonight's game (with Casey by my side just in case), but it's nice to know that if I do have an issue that others will step up in a big way.

It's 2:31 AM...I should be asleep
But, of course, I'm not. Why? Because I rarely sleep at the end of baseball season.
After the game, we boarded the bus, and despite the tough loss tonight the players were in a good mood. For three days, the Silver Hawks went head-to-head with the best team in Minor League Baseball (in terms of win/loss record) and quite honestly, outplayed the TinCaps in many aspects. They knew they had battled until the very end and gave it a great shot.
We arrived back to the stadium around 1, and the players packed up their equipment, said their goodbyes, and headed on their way. Some are driving through the night to go home, others have early flights out of the country, while still more players have flights at various times throughout the day tomorrow. It all happens pretty quickly. One minute you're on the field battling to make the next round, the next minute you are packing your bags, and a few hours later you are either in Arizona for instructs or home for the winter.
Some players will be back in South Bend next year. Some will move up to Visalia. Some may retire. Some may be released. That's how it works in Minor League Baseball.
But through it all, I am thrilled to have met each and every one of the players, coaches, and even some parents and grandparents along the way, and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
I will continue to blog through the offseason, and hope that even if your sons/grandsons/brothers/friends don't play here any longer, that you stop in and say hello from time to time.

Happy Memorial Day
As we remember, let us also say "Thank You" to those that allow us to celebrate our freedoms. What better way to celebrate America than with a baseball game.
