And no, I'm not talking about college basketball (although did you see my beloved Kentucky Wildcats pull that game out yesterday. Wow!)
The madness that I'm referring to is the fact that we are only 3 weeks away from the Notre Dame vs. South Bend exhibition game at Coveleski Stadium. To get you in the mood, here are some baseball links for you to browse this morning:
-Nick Piecoro is doing non-roster spotlights on his blog, with the latest ones featuring former Silver Hawks Evan Frey and Collin Cowgill.
-Mark Haley's latest blog entry talks about meetings and the timeline for Spring Training.

Non-Roster Invitees
The Arizona Diamondbacks sent out a press release last night, announcing the non-roster invitees to spring training. These are 17 players that are not on the 40-man roster, but will be competing in major league spring training (with many of them eventually reassigned to their minor league camps).
This is certainly an honor to be invited, with a chance to compete with the big boys. Who knows, maybe one of these guys impresses in camp, and find a roster spot on Opening Day.
I've bolded the former Silver Hawks.
Pitchers (9): Right-handed pitchers T.J. Beam, Josh Ellis, Barry Enright, Kyler Newby, Rodrigo Lopez, Wes Roemer, Bryan Shaw and Matt Torra, and left-handed pitcher Tommy Layne.
Catchers (3): Carlos Corporan, Sean Coughlin and Konrad Schmidt.
Infielders (2): Jeff Bailey and Mark Hallberg.
Outfielders (3): Collin Cowgill, Evan Frey and Drew Macias.

Evan Frey back to Minor League Camp
This news is not surprising at all, but Evan Frey ('08) was sent down to Minor League camp yesterday. He wasn't expected to make the big league club out of spring training, so it was really more of a test to see how he would perform.
Here are his stats from spring training:
13-for-51 (.255 avg), 9 runs, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 7 RBI, 1 SB
All-in-all, I'd say it was a very productive spring for Frey, who was invited to big-league camp for the first time.
Frey spent the first half of 2008 in South Bend, compiling a .327 batting average and 20 stolen bases in 75 games. He finished the year in Visalia with a .297 average and 17 stolen bases in 56 games.
