10 PM Update - For those of you that follow this, tonight's game is still in a rain delay. We are going to wait this out for a while. I am off the air because the lightning is so severe that I don't want to risk a strike doing damage to my equipment. I will update again when I know more.
10:35 PM Update - Still waiting. Umpires are talking with both managers, league president, Dragons operations staff, etc. This might be a while. Just so you know, this is a unique situation because South Bend just took the lead and the Dragons didn't get a chance to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning. They are trying to determine who, if anyone, might win this game. Do you revert back to the last full inning? Do you give the Silver Hawks the win because they have the lead regardless of the fact that Dayton didn't bat? Or do you wipe it out entirely? Perhaps, you just sit and wait.
Also, the lightning has slowed down so I've resumed the rain delay music. You can reconnect to the broadcast now.
11:00 PM Update - Game is over. Yet oddly, we still don't know who, if anyone, actually won this game. I had to sign off the air because I have to pack up equipment. I'll try to update the blog from the bus, and also, more information will be available at www.silverhawks.com when it becomes available to us. Thanks!

In Case You Missed It
Game surprisingly called after 4.5 innings because of rain. I say surprisingly, buecause it has stopped raining and I'm not seeing a whole lot on the radar. It is the umpire's decision once the game starts, so the Hawks will take the victory. Go to www.silverhawks.com to read the game story.

Get Away Day
Great wins last night. A 9-5 victory in game one, and a come-from-behind thriller for the 5-4 win in game two. Down 4-1 headed to the final inning, the Hawks rallied for four runs and the sweep of the doubleheader.
It's get-away day in Lansing, with the game at 7:05 PM. I have to check out of my room here in a few minutes, so I won't have any posts until I get to the ballpark around 2:30 or so.
Reminder, for Silver Hawks baseball, you will have to tune in to 1620 AM in South Bend (and the surrounding areas) starting tonight. If you listen online, just keep doing what you've been doing.
Finally, thanks to those that stuck with us through the technical problems last night. They have a repair man from the phone company at the stadium right now working on the line. Some of you have told me that it didn't sound that bad, and I appreciate knowing that, but it's still frustrating when the audio drops out for 5-10 seconds at a time.
For as many times as it dropped out for you listening at home, it dropped out twice as many times for me (we had a lot of problems during commercial breaks). In fact, we reconnected four or five times during commercial breaks that the listeners probably were not even aware of. Again, it's a problem with the phone line in Lansing, and has nothing to do with the radio station we are on, or why we are switching stations. That is a completely seperate issue.
Hopefully it'll be better tonight. Again, I thank you for your patience and we shouldn't have these problems again once we get out of Lansing.

The Bats Are Alive
14 total hits, 8 runs, 4 doubles, 2 triples.
Impressive 8-1 victory for the Silver Hawks tonight over Lansing. Before I talk more about the offense (since it will get all the love), let me make sure I say something about the pitching.
Trevor Harden and Sean Morgan were phenomenal. First of all, Harden allowed just one run in 7.0 innings to become the first Hawks pitcher to reach two wins. And while yes, he did get a lot of support, he continued to set them down even after he had a big lead. Morgan, pitching in relief with the same large lead, didn't mess around. He struck out four batters in 2.0 innings to close it out.
Now, with that said, what a showing by the offense. Alfredo Marte, Nelson Gomez, and Reynaldo Navarro each had three hits, and they all had at least two extra-base hits (Navarro had three). Isaias Asencio added two singles. Nobody let up. When they had the Lansing pitchers on the ropes, the Hawks kept the pressure on and added up the runs.
Good win, doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 6:05, pregame at 5:45. Hopefully the guys will keep it up.
(FYI, Justin Parker's hit in the fourth inning was changed to an error after the game. I feel bad for Parker, but ultimately, I think it's the right call. Although sometimes I disagree with decisions made by the official scorer, keep in mind these guys only get one chance to see the play. There is no instant replay, no monitors to look at multiple angles to get it right. It's one look at it live, try to get it right, and then if need be, change it after the games after talking to the coaches.)

Good Win Tonight
A good win by the Silver Hawks tonight over the Loons. Let's list the positives:
-Solid start by Taylor Sinclair in a spot role, striking out six and allowing just one run in 3.0 innings
-Great bullpen work. 2.1 innings of one run ball by T.J Hose. 1.2 scoreless innings from Bayron Zepeda (WP, 1-0). 2.0 scoreless innings from Justin Mace (SV, 1).
-Three double plays turned by the defense, including one with first and third and one out in the 4th, and another with bases loaded and one out in the sixth.
-Brendan Duffy with two more hits to raise his average to .407 -- also providing the go-ahead RBI in the 7th
-Two home runs for South Bend (Alberto Diaz in the first, Jake Elmore in the fifth) -- the first two of the season
-Run, RBI, and stolen base from Isaias Asencio.
-Victor Estevez on base in three of his four at-bats.
All of this against a very good Loons team. Great win!
