So Swoop was back on the FOX 28 Morning Show today to announce the winner of the Halloween with Swoop contest. You can find the winner now on www.silverhawks.com, but while he was there, he had a chance to help with the weather forecast.
You can watch that clip here.
I'm not sure if Swoop had ever been in front of a "green screen" before, but I think he did a pretty nice job.

Weather Update
It's overcast and gray around Grand Rapids, but the tarp is off the field and we're expecting to play tonight. Game time is at 6:35 PM and the pregame show starts at 6:15.
Also, I'm incredibly happy to announce the arrival of my nephew Kowen. He came into the world at 1:49 AM today, weighing in at 7.92 pounds and 20 inches long. My sister Erin and the baby are both doing well, and my brother-in-law Chip is very excited to have a son.
The name is pronounced much like mine, only with a K in front of it. I'll consider it an honor that my name is included in the baby's name. So I now have a nephew to go along with my twin nieces that my other sister Angela had four years ago.

11 AM Update and Lineups (UPDATED AT BOTTOM)
Well, they just pulled the tarp onto the field, which is not usually a great sign. The rain is getting here a lot earlier than expected, and it should start any minute now.
In these situations, here's how the radio broadcast will operate: We will begin the pregame show as scheduled at 12:40 PM. We will proceed with the pregame show until gametime at 1 PM. If we're ready to go at 1 (or even a little after), we just move into the game as normal. If it looks like there is going to be a longer delay, I send it back to the national ESPN Radio feed and cut in every 20-30 minutes with updates on the situation. I always try to keep you as up-to-date as possible. I don't typically update the blog during the game, so just keep checking back in with ESPN Radio to know whether the game is going to get played and when.
If and when we do play, here is the Silver Hawks starting lineup:
Broxton - CF
Owings - SS
Borchering - DH
Davidson - 3B
Nick - 2B
Stone - 1B
Diaz - RF
Hollinger - C
Estevez - LF
Smith - SP
I don't have a pregame interview recorded as of yet. I'll either get one of the coaches or just do a standings update in the third segment of the pregame show today.
UPDATE: It's 11:20, the rain just started to fall. I've also decided that now is a good day to update the Midwest League standings and league leaders to familiarize the listeners with what else is going on around the league. We'll do that in the pregame show today as opposed to an interview.

Weather Report
If the forecast on weather.com is right, then it looks like we might be able to start today's game on time.
They are calling for light rain beginning around 1, and continuing through most of the afternoon. I guess it depends on when it actually starts and how hard it rains as to whether the game is played or not.
As of now though, plan on the first pitch being at 1 PM as scheduled. If anything changes, I'll post it here.

Weather Update and Lineup
Weather.com was showing that there would be no more rain until 9 PM tonight. However, the grounds crew just put the tarp on the field here at Fifth Third Ballpark because there is a pocket of rain coming. Hopefully it'll pass quickly and the game will be started on time.

Keon Broxton - CF
Chris Owings - SS
Bobby Borchering - 3B
Matt Davidson - DH
David Nick - 2B
Bobby Stone - 1B
David Narodowski - LF
Ryan Babineau - C
Ender Inciarte - RF
Charles Brewer - SP
The pregame interview guest tonight is Brian Budrow.
Pregame show begins at 6:15 PM Eastern Time.
First pitch (hopefully) will be at 6:35 PM.

Today's Weather
Well, it's not nearly as good as it was on Monday night for the exhibition game. It is currently in the 30's and rainy. However, I just went to weather.com and it is forecasting that the rain will move out and the temperature might get into the mid-40's, so we're still holding out hope for a game.
A couple of notes:
-If we are unable to play tonight, the two teams, our GM, and the Midwest League would have to decide when to play a doubleheader (either Friday or Saturday). There are a number of factors that go into that decision.
-The Dyngus Day celebration will still go on as planned tonight, even if we do get rained out. A $12 ticket gets you into the Polish buffet in the Upper Deck, plus a ticket to the game.
Again, as of now, the game is still on and we're hoping we can get it played. If anything changes, you'll know both on www.silverhawks.com and on my blog.

I'm Back
Sorry for the delay in posts.
In the last week, I've...
-Had my computer crash, losing all my programs (but saving all my documents -- thank God)
-I had already planned to go to Charlotte this past weekend for my twin nieces 4th birthday. So I drove from South Bend to northern Kentucky (my hometown) on Thursday night. Drove to Charlotte on Friday, dealing with traffic and snow. Then, it snowed in Charlotte! I was hoping to go south to escape the weather, and I ended up building a snowman in Charlotte on Saturday.
-I drove back to northern Kentucky Sunday night, but couldn't get back to South Bend on Monday because the snow in the Cincy area was so bad and heavy, I couldn't get my car out of my street.
-So I got up at the crack of dawn this morning, and drove back to South Bend. On my way back, I witnessed a jack-knifed truck, a car spin out roughly 250 feet in front of me, and all sorts of other cars spun off the road. Somehow, I survived.
-I've now made it back to South Bend, and am in the process of reinstalling all sorts of programs on my computer.
The baseball-related posts will be back tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Today's Lineup -- Rain
A lot of rain in the Peoria area. I'm not holding my breath for a 1 PM Eastern Time start. It's the type of rain that had the game already started, they'd play through it, but since it hasn't, it'll likely be delayed at the start. I'll have updates throughout the pregame show.

Next game tomorrow at 4:05 PM at Fort Wayne. Pregame show begins at 3:45 PM.

Pregame Show Adjustment/Lineup
A bit of a change to the pregame show this weekend.
Today we'll do our weekly summary that is normally done on Sunday. We'll take a look at the week that was, and where the Silver Hawks rank in various categories compared to other Midwest League teams.
Tomorrow, I have something special planned for Mother's Day, thus the change this weekend.
Now, today's lineup:
Duffy - CF
Marte - LF
Diaz - RF
Parker - 3B
Perez - DH
Elmore - 2B
Ramirez - 1B
Davis - C
Navarro - SS
Moorhouse - SP
For what it's worth, the weather here stinks today. Rather chilly and a misting rain.

Greetings from Lansing
Had some car trouble this morning, so I'm a bit behind on what I wanted to do today. I'll have some info from the notes up once we get to the ballpark a little bit later.
It's chilly and rainy in Lansing, but for now, the game is still on. More later, check back (and make sure you check out the post below this one in terms of what to do if the internet feed drops out).
Thanks.

It's 7 A.M., Do you know where Owen is?
He's wide awake, getting ready for a long day at the office. Hopefully, this day will result in a game being played tonight against Notre Dame at 5:30 PM.
Weather Update: No snow overnight. Still a chance for some lake effect snow this morning. High of 40 today, with 20-30 MPH winds. Sounds like baseball weather to me.

Monday Evening Update
Well, the good news is that the sun came out today, the tarp is off the field, and the snow has all melted.
The bad news is that there is more snow in the forecast for tonight. So, I guess we wait and see. If anything changes, you can find the information at www.silverhawks.com. I'll try to post updates here throughout the day as well, time permitting.
Also, the team arrived in town Sunday, and all the players were at the stadium today. I had a chance to talk with some of them today, and they all seem excited to be here and ready to go.
After some team meetings, they headed over to the indoor hitting facility at Notre Dame to get in some work. If you live locally, there should be a couple articles in the South Bend Tribune tomorrow about a few players (It seemed like Ryan Babineau and Justin Parker were the first targets of the media today). You should also be able to find the stories online at www.southbendtribune.com. Fans should go ahead and bookmark that page as well since they will be the primary source for articles about the team.

It's Baseball Weather!
Wow! What an absolutely beautiful day here in South Bend. As I'm typing this post, it's currently 71 degrees and sunny here in northern Indiana. Of course, it's supposed to be 55 degrees and rainy tomorrow, but let's not worry about that right now.
Things are really starting to take shape around the stadium. New signs and paint are going up around the concourse. The field looks to be in great shape. Tickets have been selling both online and in-person (shameless plug: get your tickets now at http://www.silverhawks.com/).
As for me, my main job right now is to finish up the media guide, and get everything on the radio side of things in order so we're ready to go on April 7th against Notre Dame.
I'll be updating this a lot more frequently now that we are just weeks away from the start of the season. Be sure to add this blog to your favorites and check back daily for more information about your favorite team -- the South Bend Silver Hawks.
--21 days until the Silver vs. Gold Exhibition Game against Notre Dame (April 7th)
--23 days until the start of the 2009 season @ West Michigan (April 9th)
--27 days until the home opener vs. Lansing (April 13th)
