The D'Backs System - May 15th, 2009

Every Friday, I'll try to give a quick update on the D'Backs system. I'll include some former South Bend players at each level (this will not be a complete list of all the former Hawks, just a few per team).

A quick note before we start: Clay Zavada was optioned back to Mobile after one day on the Diamondbacks roster. He has officially been on an MLB roster, but has not yet appeared in a game.

MLB -- Arizona Diamondbacks (13-22, t-4th place, -10.5 Dodgers)
-Justin Upton has raised his average to .306 with 7 homers and 18 RBI
-Mark Reynolds with 8 home runs and 15 RBI
-Gerardo Parra on club now, homered in his first AB
-Bryan Augenstein took the loss in his debut, allowing 5 ER in 6.1 innings
-Brandon Webb on the DL after just one start and out for a while still it seems

AAA -- Reno Aces (14-20, 3rd place, -4.0 Sacramento, Fresno)
-Augie Murillo suspended today for 50 games for failing a drug test
-Bryan Byrne recently promoted, but is 0-for-26 in Triple-A
-Billy Spottiswood is 0-0 with a 5.06 ERA in four games
-Tony Barnette is 2-2 with a 5.91 ERA
-Doug Slaten is 0-0 with a 4.32 ERA in 8.1 innings since being sent down from AZ
-Cesar Valdez is 1-3 with a 6.33 ERA

AA -- Mobile BayBears (19-15, 2nd place, -5.0 Birmingham)
-Pedro Ciriaco at .215 with 12 RBI
-Sean Coughlin recently promoted, 1-for-7 to start his AA career
-Evan Frey hitting .200 in 29 games
-Orlando Mercado hitting .327
-Yunesky Sanchez batting .243, no home runs, 5 RBI
-Ricardo Sosa hitting .322 with 4 HR and 22 RBI
-Barry Enright is 1-3 with a 3.93 ERA
-Reid Mahon is 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 4 games
-Kyler Newby is 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA
-Jarrod Parker is 1-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 3 games
-Daniel Schlereth is 0-0 with a 1.46 ERA
-Clay Zavada is 1-0 with a 2.76 ERA
