Back To It...

After 4 days off, I'm ready to get this second half started.

The last poll question was ridiculous with some vote flooding, but according to the "fan vote", Matt Davidson edges out Bobby Borchering for first half MVP. Again, there was nothing official about this poll, and unfortunately it turned into a joke instead of a legitimate "who do you think has been the most valuable player" fan vote.

Anyhow, a new poll is up on the right.

  1. The voting for 1st half MVP was a Joke??? Please be REAL...The stats proved the FANS know what THEY ARE SPEAKING about! ! !
Both players are valuable, however, the FANS DEFINITELY got it right, Look at the nightly lineup...Look at the FIRST Half Stats...OBVIOUSLY you are NOT a journalist otherwise you WOULD BE impartial and REPORT the FACTS...TO Bad BECAUSE you have the opportunity to REPORT on TWO potential future Major Leaguers...Good Luck to Bobby and Matt...Go Silver Hawks! ! !

  2. I'm not saying that the result was a joke, nor am I saying that Matt Davidson didn't deserve to win (he did deserve it). But when I had never received more than 60 votes for any poll question, and I get over 500 votes for that category, it proves that the vote got flooded and the results were skewed.

But thanks for the insult Criss. I appreciate it.

  3. Owen I think you do an awesome job reporting the facts! I also know (because I have experienced this ballot stuffing) when you have "teachers" involved they get there students to log on and vote. Now, I do think the right person was selected. Matt Davidson is the man with the numbers to back his efforts. I think Chris was a close second and Errol although he does not have as much play time, his average is very good! I am cheering for the Hawks to pull it together and become the second half champs!!!

  4. Will this be the blog that never dies? Could you maybe move on to who is the second half MVP so far? or who will be the second half MVP at the end of the season? Or maybe which Hawk player looks the best in his uniform? Surely the result to the question may have been a no brainer if one could acquire access to the players statistics. Owen, I think you maybe should have gone with your gut feeling, in the beginning, when you said you had reservations about such a poll question. While I think it is good that the players are encouraged to ignore such distractions, I think it may be wise not to promote such divisive surveys amongest the Silver Hawk supporters. You are in a good position to help promote a strong fan support base that will ultimately help the business success of the team. At the same time, the coaches are responsible for developing the players and teaching them how to play team baseball. They must stress skills like bunting, moving the runner, hitting the cut off man, hit and run, setting the table, backing up, two strike approach, etc. This will be an improvement to the mother team's approach of home run derby and strike outs. I agree with your tactic about stressing that this informal survey was merely for fun and that you tried to point out to the moms (dads) that unlike little league, an actual award was not given. Keep up the good work, go Hawks!
