During today's pregame, we'll take our weekly look at the Midwest League standings and the playoff chase, as we do every Sunday afternoon.
Also, in case you were curious, Ramon Ramirez will be #3 now. There's a story behind this....
Ramirez is the veteran. He was #33, but was promoted to Visalia. When he left, Miley took his old number 33. Then Jordan Meaker took Miley's number 15. Then Brad Wilson came in and took Meaker's old number 35.
Now, Ramirez is back. Since he's the veteran, he gets first choice of the number (that's how it works -- the older you are, or the more experience you have, you get first choice). Ramirez wore #3 last night. Today, I was told Ramirez was going to switch back to #33 and Miley was going to be #3. Because of this, I sent out a new roster to all the teams in the league (which we are required to do).
We arrive at the stadium, and I get a text message saying that Ramirez is going to be #3, and Miley's keeping #33. I have no idea how this got worked out. I'm curious as to whether there was money involved. (Seriously, people will sometimes pay other players good money to get a uniform number). Regardless, I had to send out another roster to the league. Other broadcasters around the league are now making fun of the Silver Hawks because we have players changing numbers every week. It's absurd.
